Meet our Mascots

We are proud to introduce you to our two new team members – Borrans Junior and Bertie Brown – who were chosen in the Mascot draw last Sunday.

Borrans Junior has come along with a little rucksack on his back, containing his waterproofs – we hope he won’t need them! He has come with high recommendations from High Borrans Outdoor Centre, where he is one of a group of teddies who accompany school groups on their adventures, so we will value his experience. He arrived yesterday and has already got stuck in by helping Christine sort out all the boxes of provisions, and helping Norman with the Bicycle Inspection Form. He has even had a go on the spare tandem to check that it is still road worthy after the Lands End John O’Groats ride in 2011.  He was pleased to hear that we have recently had it serviced.

Today we met our second mascot, Bertie Brown. He was given to us by John and Val, friends from Warrington who holiday regularly in Coniston, and we know through Coniston Christian Fellowship. They have even written the following poem to accompany Bertie:

I am a little bear, my name is Bertie Brown

My happy face will cheer you up when you begin to frown

I have travelled over England and also parts of France

And when you need that extra push, I’ll help you to advance

I am also very cuddly when you miss family and friends

My heart will remind you the Lord’s love has no end.

I am honoured to be your mascot and guaranteed to behave

And when we pass our Irish friends I am sure we’ll get a wave!

Although they ‘bearly’ know each other, Borrans Junior and Bertie Brown find they have a lot in common, as they ‘paws’ for a moment to discuss the adventure ahead.

Since our two mascots happen to be bears, we wondered if you were up for the challenge of emailing us any good bear jokes during the race week (beechboystandem@gmail.com). Do remember, that it is a family show, so only clean jokes please!!

Here is one to start you off:

What cheese would you use to coax a bear out of a cave?                              Camembert

Please email messages of encouragement during the race week – and these will be passed on to Norman, James and the crew to keep them going. It would be great to hear from you!
